New String Installation and procedures:

When installing new strings there are a few things I like to look for and also a sequence I follow when installing them. I know everyone does things a little differently, but here are a few suggestions of things I would do to make sure bow is fitted properly with your new strings!!

  • Make sure you are using an approved bow press for your particular bow, this is very important for your safety!!

  • Remove the old string and replace with the new one, be very careful to make sure the new string doesn’t loose ant twists when you remove it from the string doesn’t loose ant twists when you remove it from the packaging they are shipped in.

  • Remove old cables (or cable depending on your model) and replace it also without loosing any twists. In this step you want to make sure the cable and string cross each other in the same manner in which they had done previously.

  • Look to make sure that all string and cable loops are seated properly.

  • If your bow has a split buss cable you will want to set the cam lean in this step.

  • Set the timing (sync) of the cam or cams to make sure they are rolling over at the same time. Although many people don’t ever think about it, a single cam bow has a proper spot for timing. Also never remove the draw stops from a binary cam bow and draw it back, it could lock up at full draw and cause you to have a BAD day!!!

  • Next check to make sure the axle to axle and brace height measurements are correct, these can be tuned by adding or removing twists.

  • Use the divider that is still in the string to install the peep sight; this is critical in making sure the peep is installed in the center of the string. This helps the peep come straight back without twisting.

  • After the peep is installed at the correct height for the shooter tie it in making sure to wrap the peep with the thread to hold it in the string securely (also an important safety step).

  • If the peep is turned so the shooter can’t see through it, add one twist at a time until the peep sits in proper position (it helps to shoot about 5 shots between each adjustment)

  • You will need to wax your new string more often in the beginning because during the string making process I strip the wax from the material to prevent the serving from slipping later. After a few times the string will be soaked with wax and wont need it as much.

  • All that’s left to do now is shoot 12 rings or x’s !!!
